Have you ever felt like your body just… isn’t moving the way it should?
Maybe you wake up tired, feel puffy or swollen, and your mind seems to move through fog. Maybe your digestion is off—bloating, sticky stools, or fullness after meals. And no matter how “healthy” you try to eat, it doesn’t quite help.
All of this may seem rather complex, but for situations like these, we can look to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). In TCM, there’s actually a name for this pattern: dampness.
What Is Dampness?
In simple terms, dampness is what happens when your body accumulates more moisture and metabolic “stickiness” than it can process. It’s like having internal humidity or moisture: things feel heavy, slow, and stuck.
Unlike an infection or injury, dampness doesn’t show up overnight. It builds slowly—layer by layer—and can quietly sabotage your energy, clarity, hormone balance, and gut health.
Signs You May Have Dampness
- Heaviness
- General sluggishness
- Bloating after meals, or inflammatory digestive problems
- Fatigue, especially after eating
- Brain fog or trouble focusing
- Sticky or sluggish bowel movements
- Swollen hands, feet, or puffy face
- Frequent sinus congestion, such as colds or flu or chronic stuffy nose
- Skin breakouts, itching, or “damp” (moist or oozing) rashes
- Feeling emotionally stuck, cluttered, or unmotivated
…Sound familiar?
How Does Dampness Happen?
TCM sees dampness as a result of both lifestyle and internal imbalances. Contributing factors include:
- Too many cold or sweet foods (even “healthy” ones like smoothies or raw salads)
- Stress and burnout
- Poor sleep or digestion
- Long-term use of antibiotics
- Sedentary lifestyle or lack of sweating
- Excessive humidity
How We Clear Dampness
The good news is, dampness can be gently cleared. In your personalized care plan, we may use:
- Targeted herbal support
- Gentle nutrition shifts
- Mindful movement and drainage-system support
- Gut and liver support tailored to your labs and symptoms
As we reduce dampness, you may notice:
- Clearer thinking
- Better digestion
- Less bloating
- More energy
- Smoother hormones
- A lighter, freer, “unstuck” feeling
Curious If This Is You?
I see this pattern often—especially in perimenopause (or menopause), metabolic concerns, low thyroid conditions, or when fatigue and gut symptoms overlap.
If this resonates, I’d be happy to explore it further in a visit. We’ll use both traditional and functional tools to help you feel clearer, lighter, and more like yourself again.
